TIPZ & TRICKZ 1:

THE ART OF STORYTELLING

A great story or video often hinges on an interviewee and the way they deliver the required responses,
the questions that have been asked to that interviewee, the execution of the production team on the
day of filming, the actual crafting of the storyline by the producer or director and of course the editing
of the visuals or overlay footage.

Engaging storytelling is an art form and frequently gets forgotten about in the world of corporate videos.
A great story can engage new customers, inspire them to reach out and also help them to understand if your values as a company align with theirs.

There are subtle nuances that can be seen in a video that aren’t usually seen in a meeting or brochure.
The camera sees and hears all. From how your staff appear in their interviews, body language, work environment… down to what is in the background of a shot in the distance.

These things are just as important as what is being said and can really change how a customer sees
your business.

5 key things to consider when putting your initial video ideas together:
          1. What is your ethos / or mantra that you live and breathe?
          2. How do you want to be seen by your clients and the public?
          3. Is there something unique about what you do or how your company is different?
          4. Type / style of video for you - Promotional, Corporate, Testimonial, Animation etc
          5. Here’s the big one… are you willing to spend money to showcase your business in
            the
            best light?

Cost can be a major factor in your decision making process when deciding to make a video but “Cheap is not always better” especially in the world of video production. Too many times I have seen companies film things on their phone and then realise they should have paid a professional. Professionals are trained to get the best visuals and best story they can.

When I am working on a project (no matter the budget or concept) I consider it a work of art, a mini film and a piece of myself and my passion and the client's passion are in every part of it. That is the value of having a professional make your video for you.

Things to remember:

Do your research, find a company that meets your needs and budget, ask for guidance if you need help
or have never made a video before. Ask lots of questions and if you don’t get a great response, you’ll know quickly that the company you have chosen is not right for you!

Video production can be a little daunting but from past experience when you find a team that works and really gets you and your company it can be a fun journey together and a fruitful relationship.
